Alberta Education

Alberta Education is a direct partner with the Education Commission.  This includes working together to meet the needs of all Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta students on and off reserve.  The Education Commission advocates on behalf of the First Nations of Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta to Alberta Education.  This partnership is on-going and both entities are mutual in their dedication to the education of all children.


Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC)

In general, INAC has primary, but not exclusive, responsibility for meeting the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Northerners.  To fulfill this mandate, INAC must work collaboratively with First Nations, Inuit and Northerners, as well as with other federal departments and agencies, provinces and territories.  Increasingly, INAC's role has become one of facilitating change and bringing together the partners and interests needed to implement Gathering Strength - Canada's Aboriginal Action Plan.


Assembly of First Nations (AFN)

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is the national representative organization of the First Nations in Canada.  There are over 630 First Nation's communities in Canada.  The AFN Secretariat, is designed to present the views of the various First Nations through their leaders in areas such as:  Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, Economic Development, Education, Languages and Literacy, Health, Housing, Social Development, Justice, Taxation, Land Claims, Environment, and a whole array of issues that are of common concern which arises from time to time.

The Alberta Teacher Association is a partner with the Education Commission.  The Treaty 8 Education Commission and the Alberta Teacher Association have common philosophies regarding educational objectives.  Both organizations strongly believe that it is imperative to promote and advance education in Alberta, and to improve the teaching profession.
