AFN Aboriginal Lanaguage Initiative

The Minister of Canadian Heritage launched the Aboriginal Languages Initiative (ALI) project to address the following objectives:

• Increase the naumber and quality of Aboriginal language projects in Aboriginal communities.
• Increase the number of people and communities involved in Aboriginal language initiatives.
• Support the development of long term strategies for the revitalization and maintenance of Aboriginal languages.
• Working together with the AFN and member First Nations for Aboriginal language revitalization, acquisition, maintenance and retention will ensure that our cultures and distinct identities are not lost
