Grand Chief’s Office

The position of Grand Chief is elected by the Chiefs of Treaty No. 8.

The position of Grand Chief is elected by the Chiefs of Treaty No. 8 [Alberta] for a term of three (3) years.

The Grand Chief duties includes carrying out and implementing the resolutions of the Assembly of Treaty 8 Chiefs and the Executive Board of Chiefs. The Grand Chief also provides political advocacy and support for the Assembly of Treaty 8 Chiefs and the Council of Chiefs.

To be eligible to be Grand Chief they must have been a former Chief of a First Nation of Treaty 8 in Alberta.

Grand Chief Arthur Noskey was born and raised in Loon River and still resides there today with his lovely wife of 29 years; Mary Noskey. They are the parents of 3 grown children and they are blessed with 3 grandchildren.

Grand Chief Noskey was elected Chief of Loon River First Nation in 2004; and held the position until March 2016. Arthur served as Grand Chief of Treaty 8 from 2005 – 2008 and again in 2010 – 2011.

Grand Chief Arthur Noskey brings to the Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta, a strong commitment to First Nation issues and a dedication to protecting Treaty Rights.

I, Arthur Noskey, do solemnly declare that I shall truly and faithfully, to the best of my abilities and skills to serve as the Grand Chief for the Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta.

I solemnly pledge to uphold the true spirit and intent of Treaty Number 8 and the treaty promises as understood and told by my ancestors through oral traditions, and by present day Elders, Chiefs, Headmen and contemporary Indigenous Historians, Scholars, and Learned members. I will faithfully and truthfully advance, promote, protect and continue to keep alive the Treaties made by our ancestral leaders. I will bring forth the voice of our leaders to all forums where I am called to represent our member nations and territories. I pledge to watch for opportunities that which I believe to be of benefit and will strengthen our peoples; and that I shall watch for all dangers and give you warning when danger is real and present.

I hereby make these pledges in honour of my ancestors; in the presence of my elders and chiefs; and to our nations’ citizens.
